Invoking a scientific outlook for the knowledge of Sowa-Rigpa, one of the oldest living and well-documented medical traditions, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh, and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad.
“Sowa-Rigpa”, popularly known as the Amchi system of medicine, has been practiced in Tibet, Magnolia, Bhutan, some parts of China, Nepal and other Himalayan regions of India and a few parts of the erstwhile Soviet Union, etc.
The MoU aims to foster and promote academic and research collaborations, faculty and student exchange, teaching programmes, and a proposal to facilitate the preservation, promotion, and development of the Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine as a model evolving high standards of teaching, training, research, and to invoke scientific outlook to the knowledge of Sowa-Rigpa.
The MoU was signed on behalf of NISR Director, Leh Dr. Padma Gurmet, and NIPER Director, Prof. Shailendra Saraf, an official spokesman said.
The MoU will allow faculty exchange and collaboration to identify need-based, demand-driven, sustainable education programs to be delivered through e-learning, distance education, and regular modes going forward.
NIPER Hyderabad will provide training in research techniques in Molecular Biology, Neurosciences, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Bio-analytical studies, medical devices, and other related areas and opportunities to undertake electives for BSRMS students at NIPER Hyderabad.
NISR would facilitate research at NIPER Hyderabad by providing clinical material, Materia Medica-Plant Kingdom, Metal, Mineral, and Animal Kingdom, Therapeutic principle, External and Rejuvenation Therapy, and samples from NISR through this partnership.
