With Odisha Cabinet conferring approval to amend rules, women regardless of their marital status are now entitled to get government jobs against deceased government servant parents under the compassionate appointment category.

Earlier unmarried daughters only merited consideration for such appointments.

The Odisha Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal to amend the existing civil service rule to provide the daughters irrespective of their marital status in compassionate appointment in government jobs.

The Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi accorded seal of approval to the proposal. As per the provisions of the Odisha Civil Service (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules, 2020, unmarried daughters and stepdaughters of deceased government servants are being considered for compassionate appointment, whereas the case of married daughters and married stepdaughters are not considered.

It is therefore proposed to amend the OCS (RA) Rules, 2020 for consideration of the case of daughters and stepdaughters irrespective of the status of their marriage for compassionate appointment subject to conditions that their ‘dependency’ on their parents is proved, Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said, adding that the proposal in this regard was approved by the State Cabinet on Thursday.
