Odisha to establish university of health sciences

The Odisha Government on Sunday announced the establishment of a health university in the state on the occasion of the 107th birth anniversary of legendary politician and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made the announcement regarding the establishment of Odisha University of Health Sciences on Sunday on the 107th birth anniversary of illustrious son of the soil, the architect of modern Odisha and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.

“All medical and allied health science colleges and institutions will stand affiliated to Odisha University of Health Sciences, Bhubaneswar from the academic session 2023-24,” he said.

All colleges offering undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Health Sciences starting from Modern Medicine, to Dental Science, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, and other allied health science courses will now come under its ambit from the academic session 2023-24, a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Sunday.

The Odisha Government had decided to set up a health university to streamline the medical education system as a number of medical institutions were coming up in the state.

The Odisha University of Health Science, Bhubaneswar Act was passed in the Odisha Legislative Assembly in October, 2021 and notified by the Government of Odisha in the Health & Family Welfare Department on 14th August, 2022.

The establishment of this health university will further add value and enhance the quality of medical education, patient care and research in the State of Odisha, the statement added.
