Odisha cyclone Daye | After Odisha, heavy rainfall forecast for many other states

Heavy rainfall accompanied by high-speed wind has hit several parts of Odisha as cyclonic storm DAYE crossed the coast near Gopalpur on early Friday. DAYE brought heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts of the state, officials said.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at some places in Balangir, Bararh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts till the morning of Saturday, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said.

The MeT centre also warned of gale wind with speed reaching 60-70 kmph and gusting up to 80 kmph along and off south Odisha coast for a few hours.
The state government has instructed officials in coastal districts and various departments to be alert to tackle any emergency situation, official sources said.

The cyclone warning division’s (CWD) advisory said the sea will be very rough over central and northern Bay of Bengal and off Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh coasts.

There will also be a storm surge of about 0.5 m above astronomical tides and it is likely to flood low-lying areas of Vizianagaram, Srikakulam districts in Andhra Pradesh and Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda and Puri districts in Odisha at the time of landfall, it said.

In the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast at most places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, many places in Odisha, a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

In North, a few places in east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, isolated places in west Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh will receive heavy rain.

In Central India, most places in Chhattisgarh, a few places in Vidarbha, isolated places in east Madhya Pradesh will receive heavy rain. Many places in Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, coastal Karnataka, a few places in Konkan & Goa, Interior Karnataka, Kerala, isolated places in Saurashtra & Kutch, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and many places in Andaman & Nicobar, a few places in Lakshadweep will receive rainfall.
