No new taxes in this year’s Gujarat Budget

Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai on Friday presented a Rs 917-crore surplus Budget in the state assembly for the year 2023-24.

The Budget, first by the newly elected Bhupendra Patel ministry in the state, continued with the existing tax rates with no new taxes imposed.

The state finance minister said that an amendment will be made in the use of IT and simplification in electricity duty in future.

The Budget, with an outlay of Rs 3.01 lakh crore is 23 per cent higher than the previous year, showed a surplus of Rs 916.87 crore.

The Budget for 2023-24 is heavily tilted towards the urban sector with an allocation of Rs 19,685 crore for developmental projects while the health and family welfare sector received Rs 15,182 crores.

To deal with increasing instances of cyber crimes in the state, an allocation of Rs 14 crore has been made for setting up of 15 cyber crime police stations.
