NC, Cong to share LAHDC councillor post on rotational basis


The National Conference and the Congress on Tuesday agreed to hold the post of chief executive councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil on a rotational basis.

The NC’s candidate will hold the post of the chief executive councillor (CEC) for the first two-and-a-half years.

The NC-Congress combine won 22 out of 26 seats of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC).

The recently elected councillors of the LAHDC, Kargil were sworn in at the Syed Mehdi Auditorium Hall in Kargil.

The National Conference (NC) nominated Jaffar Akhoon as its candidate for the post of chief executive councillor-cum-chairman of the fifth LAHDC.

Outgoing CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan had proposed the name of Akhoon, which was agreed to by the councillors unanimously, a party leader informed after the meeting. Akhoon had won from Thasgam Thovina constituency.

The BJP and independents won two seats each as the NC–Congress coalition swept the election.
