Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to the victims of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks on its ninth anniversary and said that terrorism has become a “global scourge” and a “threat to humanity”.
Addressing the 38th edition of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Modi saluted the “brave women and men” who died in the 26/11 Mumbai attack.
“We salute all those brave women and men who lost their lives in the gruesome 26/11 attacks in Mumbai,” he said.
“India has been a victim of terrorism for 40 years. Thousands of innocent people in India have died in terror attacks,” Modi said.
“For over four decades, India has been raising the issue of terror. Initially the world did not take us seriously but now the world is realising the destructive aspects of terrorism,” Modi added.
Over 160 people were killed and more than 300 injured when the terrorists of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba launched a series of attacks on India’s commercial capital on November 26, 2008.
Modi stressed that terrorism has become a “global scourge” and a “threat to humanity” and therefore it was time all nations come together to fight this menace.
“Terrorism is out to destroy the societies of the world. It’s time all nations join hands to fight terrorism,” he said.
