The number of complaints received by the National Consumer Helpline saw a massive increase from 1.30 lakh in 2014 to a whopping 30 lakh in 2017, Union Minister of Food and Public Distribution, Consumer Affairs Ram Vilas Paswan said on Saturday.

The minister also said that in the last one year, the complaints have risen by 73 per cent.

“National Consumer Helpline (NCH) got 1.30 lakh complaints in 2014 and the number increased to 30 lakh in 2017. Last year, the number of people registering complaints rose by 73 per cent,” the minister tweeted.

To facilitate the increased rush, the total number of counters have increased from 14 to 60 and as a result, the response time, which used to hover around seven minutes earlier, has been completely done away with, the minister said.

Paswan further said that all consumer helplines in states will be integrated and by 18 March, 2018, a total of 18 states will be linked to the national consumer helpline.
