Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the armed forces of the country have time and again retaliated to terrorist attacks from across the border.

In his monthly Mann Ki Baat address, the PM also recalled the Pulwama terror attack and said that the nation is “agonised and angry” at the loss of the brave sons of the soil.

“Ten days ago, Mother India had to face loss of many of her brave sons. People across the nation are agonised and angry,” the PM said.

“There is a wave of support and condolence towards the martyrs and their families,” he added.

The 14 February Pulwama terror attack carried out by a terrorist from Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed the lives of 44 CRPF personnel. JeM is a Pakistan-based terrorist group.

Amid growing clamour for a punitive action against Pakistan, the PM said that the forces have shown   “unparalleled courage”.

“On the one hand they have displayed impeccable capabilities in restoring peace. On the other, they have retaliated befittingly in the language terrorists understand,” he said.

The PM had in a rally held in Rajasthan’s Tonk on Saturday praised the security forces for eliminating the JeM leadership in the valley in less than 100 hours of the Pulwama terror attack.

“I am proud of our jawans who within 100 hours sent the perpetrators of the attack on their comrades, to the place where they belong,” he said.

He also asked PM Imran Khan to walk the talk and eradicate poverty and illiteracy.

In his address over the radio today, the PM also said that India will soon have its first War Memorial.

“The never-ending wait after nation’s independence for a War Memorial is about to be over,” he said.

“India not having a National War Memorial used to surprise me and really pain me. This new memorial has been built near India Gate and Amar Jawan Jyoti,” the PM added.

The National War Memorial was first proposed by the armed forces in 1960 but it was the Modi government which approved the proposal in October 2015.
