Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, while addressing the nation in the 57th edition of the monthly radio programme Mann ki Baat, made a special mention of the Indian women who have brought about significant changes in the society.

Incidentally, the programme Mann ki Baat coincided with the festival of Deepawali which is considered to be the day when Goddess Laxmi, who represents prosperity, richness, and happiness, showers her blessings on her devotees.

Taking it further, Modi kick-started Bharat Ki Laxmi campaign where he discussed about the women who have brought a great change in the society and called on people to draw attention to the achievements of the daughters of India by using #BharatKiLaxmi.

“In last Mann Ki Baat, we had decided to celebrate this Diwali in a different way. I had called for celebrating the achievements of Naari Shakti of India, which means honouring Bharat ki Laxmi, Lakshmi of India,” said Modi.

“Soon after I conveyed this message, it drew an instant response and social media has been flooded with several inspirational stories,” he added.

“In our culture, daughters are considered Laxmi, since they are the harbinger of fortune and prosperity. There are numerous daughters around us who have brought glory to their families, society, and the country through their perseverance, diligence, extraordinary performance, and talent.”

“Some are engaged in teaching underprivileged children, others are occupied in spreading awareness about sanitation and health, while many are serving the society as Doctors, Engineers or striving for justice to someone by working as a lawyer.”

“We should recognize such daughters, honour them, and feel proud of them,” said Modi while asking the people to bring to the fore, such achievers.
