Named in ED remand report, KCR daughter faces CBI probe

K Kavitha meeting TRS supporters on Saturday morning

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the TRS MLC and daughter of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Reddy, has written to CBI requesting a copy of the complaint received from the Ministry of Home Affairs and added that the date of her questioning by CBI officials may be fixed only after she gets the copy.

Earlier, she had requested the CBI to meet her on 6 December at her residence in Hyderabad.

In her letter sent today, Kavitha wrote: “The requested documents may be provided at the earliest to enable me to acquaint myself and answer appropriately within a reasonable period of time. Date of our meeting can be fixed after the receipts of the documents. The notice under section 160 of CrPC is primarily issued for questioning.

After being named in a remand report of the Enforcement Directorate, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the TRS MLC and daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, will now face examination by CBI officers on 6 December in Hyderabad in connection with the Delhi Liquor Scam.
As Opposition BJP and Congress sharpened their attack on her with the latest notice from the CBI, Kavitha, on Saturday, drove to Pragathi Bhavan, the camp office cum residence of her chief minister father, most likely for a discussion on the issue at hand.
Kavitha informed the CBI that she will meet the officer at her Hyderabad residence after she received a notice under section 160 of CrPC from the Central investigating agency. The CBI had sought to examine her in connection with the case registered against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
“During the course of investigation of the subject cited case, certain facts have emerged with which you may be acquainted hence your examination on such facts is required in the interest of investigation. It is therefore requested that kindly intimate the place of residence (Hyderabad or preferably Delhi) as per your convenience for your examination at 1100 hours on 6 December in connection with investigation of above noted case,” read the notice issued by Alok Kumar Shahi, deputy superintendent of police, CBI.
In a statement released her late last night, Kavitha said: “I have informed the authorities that I can meet them at my residence in Hyderabad on December 6 as per their request.” She had earlier promised to cooperate with the probe agency in their investigations in the liquor policy scam case. She met and greeted a large number of TRS supporters who gathered at her residence, appearing to be unfazed by the CBI notice for questioning.
According to ED’s remand report Kavitha is one of the three members of the powerful South lobby who paid huge sums to Vijay Nair, AAP media in charge.
The Opposition, meanwhile, continued attacking her with the Congress demanding her resignation and the BJP even calling her a part of the liquor mafia.
In an attack on the chief minister and his family, BJP national general secretary in charge of Telangana Tarun Chugh said, “All the corruption around liquor policy, be it Punjab or Delhi, Kejriwal, Bhagwat Mann and KCR all three are involved. And this is why KCR and Kavitha come to Delhi frequently. There is a long list of how many mobile phones have been destroyed, it is like a mafia is at work. This is known as the South liquor mafia and has become a big challenge. Everyone one is looting, the son is looting on his own, the nephew too is looting. This is a long scandal and Kavitha should confess the truth before the CBI.”
