A Myanmar military plane met with an accident on landing at Lengpui Airport in Mizoram on Tuesday.
According to sources, the plane arrived from Myanmar to transport soldiers who had crossed the Indo-Myanmar border and entered Mizoram last week.
Reports suggest that the pilot overshot the landing, resulting in the accident, and 8 out of the 13 crew members on board sustained injuries. The table-top runway at Lengpui Airport becomes a challenge for pilots during landing and take-offs.
The Myanmar military plane had landed at the Airport to airlift 184 Myanmar Army personnel who had sought refuge in the region. These soldiers had fled to Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district to avoid clashes with Arakan Army militants.
The evacuation of these soldiers took place in two batches after negotiations were held between the External Affairs Ministry and the Myanmar military junta.
