The Congress is yet to decide on its first list of candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, election campaign committee head and MP from Guna-Shivpuri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, said on Thursday. He said the central election committee (CEC) at its next meeting in about a week would decide on the list.
On the list of Congress candidates that has been going viral on social media, Scindia said several names had been discussed by the CEC. He was on a one-day visit to Gwalior to perform the traditional Navami and Dussehra puja of the Scindia royal family.
“Candidates names are under consideration before the CEC meetings which were held yesterday, we didn’t finalise any name despite long discussions,” Scindia said.
“It is expected that we would declare the first list of candidates in upcoming 5 or 6 days after the next meeting of the CEC which will be held after these festivals,” he said. Scindia is also member in CEC.
The name of senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s wife Amrita Rai is doing the rounds as the candidate for Budhani Assembly seat which is represented by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Scindia did not comment on the issue.
Madhya Pradesh goes to polls on 28 November and the result will be announced on 11 December.
