Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh wrote a letter to the Centre on Monday demanding a ban on all porn sites claiming that pornography was the “main cause” for rapes.

Singh told reporters that pornography was adversely impacting childhood, and rapes and sexual assaults were a result of access to these sites.

“A study by the MP home department revealed pornography is adversely impacting childhood, with even young boys and girls getting easy access to it. Rapes and sexual assaults are a result of access to these sites,” Singh told media at the secretariat.

According to media reports, 25 porn websites are banned in Madhya Pradesh. Home Minister Bhupendra Singh has demanded pornography to be banned altogether and said a stringent law should be introduced in connection with it.

“Though some 25 porn sites have been banned, we do not have direct control over such sites. So, we have urged the Union government to ban all porn sites and introduce a stringent law to control porn,” he said.

Appreciating the law which awards capital punishment to those convicted of raping children aged 12 and below, he underlined that stricter laws were not enough and social awareness should be created through mass campaigns.
