Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that the unemployment rate in India is higher than that of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.

Rahul held the Narendra Modi government responsible for the alarming unemployment rate, which, he claimed, resulted from its wrong policies and decisions.

Addressing people at Mohana in Gwalior during his ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, currently in Madhya Pradesh, Rahul asserted that the country is grappling with its highest unemployment figures in the past 40 years.

Rahul claimed that India’s current unemployment rate stands at 23 per cent, while that of Pakistan is around 12 per cent.

He criticised PM Modi for decisions like demonetisation and implementation of GST, which, he claimed, had a detrimental effect on small businesses across the country.

Later in the day, Rahul temporarily halted his yatra for a day to travel to Patna and participate in a rally organised by the opposition INDI Alliance.

According to Congress leaders, the yatra will resume in MP on 4 March.
