Mizoram CM calls on PM Modi; discusses wide range of issues

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Thursday and discussed various issues pertaining to the state.

Lalduhoma, during his maiden meeting with the Prime Minister after taking over as the Chief Minister of the north eastern state, discussed the India-Myanmar border, an official source told The Statesman.

Mentioning the Inner Line Permit (ILP), the Chief Minister said there is a better system of ILP implementation than the current system, the source said.

The source added that the Prime Minister asked the CM to submit his proposal in this regard.

The ILP is an official travel document which is required for an Indian citizen to enter into the state.

The Chief Minister also met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari here and discussed the progress of the ongoing national highway projects in the state of Mizoram.

On Wednesday, Lalduhoma met Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar.

“So glad to meet Chief Minister of Mizoram Lal_Duhoma ji. We began Government service at the same time and trained together. Discussed how MEA and the State Government could collaborate more closely,” Jaishannkar wrote in a post on X.

It may be mentioned that the Lalduhoma-led Zoram People’s Movement swept the recently concluded Assembly elections. The party won 27 out of the 40 Assembly seats.
