An eight-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, raped, and murdered at the home of a married young man who is the father of two children. He then dumped the girl’s body on the borders of Jantrakhadi hamlet in Gir Somnath district in a sack. On Sunday evening, the culprit was apprehended by the police.

The police will present him in court by Monday evening, requesting that the trial be expedited so that the accused is convicted as soon as possible and receives the maximum punishment.

The villagers claim that “Ansuya (name changed) went to the market on a Sunday morning to buy something. The accused then kidnapped her and took her to his room, where she was raped. It’s conceivable that while rapping her, he put his hand over her mouth to prevent her screams from being heard by the neighbors, resulting in her death from asphyxia.”

Later, the accused stuffed the body into a sack and dumped it on the village’s outskirts. When the people went looking for the girl, they discovered her body.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat told IANS: “The moment police was informed about the incident, along with me, District Superintendent Police Manoharsinh Jadeja and entire team reached the village and started looking for the accused, and by late evening, the accused was arrested. The forensic team has collected enough evidence from the residence of the accused.”

The accused’s statement was videotaped, and the victim’s body was submitted for a postmortem examination. A medical examination will also be conducted on the accused.

The police stated that they will meet with the judicial official in person and request that the trial be accelerated.

In Porbandar, the accused works as a crew member on a boat. She had left him and gone to her parents’ house since he was apparently an alcoholic and a wife-beater.

Meanwhile, on Monday, residents gathered and asked that the accused be paraded through the village and publicly punished. For his crime, they demanded the death penalty.
