Militants attack security forces in Srinagar, 1 CRPF jawan injured

Militants on Saturday attacked security forces at Lasjan area in the outskirts of the city, injuring a CRPF jawan.

Dinesh Paswan, a constable in 29 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), sustained bullet injury in his abdomen, an official said, adding that he was admitted to a hospital.

“The injured jawanhas been shifted to 92 Base Hosptial at Badami Bagh where he is currently under treatment,” the official said.

Earlier today, a young man was killed on Saturday in clashes between security forces and protestors post Eid prayers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag town, police said.

Police sources said that the man identified as Sheraz Ahmad of Barakpora village was injured in the street battles in Janglamandi area and succumbed to his critical injuries later in a Srinagar hospital. Another person was injured in the clashes in Safakadal.

Reports said over a dozen protesters had been injured in the clashes. Similar clashes also broke out at other places in the Kashmir Valley.

In Pulwama, a crowd protested against the killing of a nine-year-old boy on Friday in Army firing, the police said. Youths in Shopian town too resorted to stone pelting.

Clashes took place in Srinagar city’s Eidgah area where large crowds of devotees gathered to offer congregational Eid prayers.

Muslims from all walks of life started making a beeline to the Eidgah(prayer ground) or a mosque for offering the Eid prayers as a thanksgiving for the month-long fasting of Ramadhan.
