Martyr Ajay Kumar cremated with full military honours

The last rites of martyred soldier Ajay Kumar were performed on Tuesday morning at his ancestral village with full military honours. He was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Pulwama area of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night.

Ajay Kumar belonged to Basa Tikri village. He is survived by a pregnant wife and a two-and-a-half-year-old son.

The mortal remains of Kumar were brought here on Tuesday morning. First, the mortal remains were taken to the military hospital where he was paid tributes by the officers of the army and the police. Thereafter, he was taken to his village Basa Tikri where his last rites were performed.

The entire village had turned up to pay tributes to the brave son of their village who laid down his life for the country. Officers from the armed forces and the police, along with the villagers raised slogans of “Ajay Amar Rahe”.

Ajay’s father, Veer Pal Singh, who has retired from the Indian Army, put up a brave front as he tried to remain calm and composed. He said that he is proud of the supreme sacrifice of his son. He also said that the hands of the army should be set free and they should be given the freedom to shoot the terrorists directly.

Ajay was posted with the 20th Battalion of The Grenadiers on April 7, 2011. Presently, he was serving with the 55 Rashtriya Rifles on deputation. Four years back he got married to Dimple and was blessed by a son. Dimple is expecting their second child.
