Less than two months after an eight-year-old girl was raped in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur, a special court awarded death sentence to the two accused on Tuesday.
The Mandsaur court pronounced the sentence hours after it convicted the two of raping the minor girl on June 26.
The Class II student had been brutally tortured and raped in Mandsaur and the incident had sparked nationwide outrage. She was lured away by the two accused – Irfan alias Bhaiyu (20) and Asif (24) — when she was standing outside her school on June 26, waiting for her parents to pick her up.
After raping the minor, the accused men had slit her throat before walking away. The minor, who suffered severe injuries to her neck, face, head and private parts, is currently undergoing treatment in Indore.
Relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were invoked against the accused. Special Judge Nisha Gupta held Bhaiyu and Asif guilty under the sections, public prosecutor B S Thakur said.
