Man carrying grenades nabbed near Army recruitment rally

Security forces arrested a youth carrying grenades in the Surankot area of Poonch near the Line of Control (LoC) where an Army recruitment rally was being conducted on Monday.

The youth, identified as Rajinder Singh, was taken into custody when he was found suspiciously roaming around in front of the entrance gate of the Territorial Army (TA) unit. The soldiers overpowered him and handed him over to the police.

During interrogation, he told the police that he had come from Kalakot in Rajouri district. A hand grenade and an under-barrel grenade were recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, Mudasir Ahmad Khan, a key conspirator of the 14 February Pulwama terror attack, was killed on Monday in an overnight encounter with security forces in Tral area of South Kashmir. He is among the three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists killed in the encounter. According to officials, Khan had provided the explosives laden Maruti Eeco van to the suicide attacker who rammed it into a CRPF convoy killing more than 40 troopers.

Police said two of the three terrorists neutralised at Pinglish in Tral were locals while one was a Pakistani national.
