A day after meeting leaders including NCP chief Sharad Pawar to forge a common front against the BJP in the next Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the national capital on Wednesday.
According to reports, the meeting is likely to take place at the former Congress chief’s residence at around 5 pm. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is expected to be present at the meeting as well.
According to reports, Banerjee who arrived in the national capital on Monday was keen to meet Sonia on Tuesday but due to UPA chairperson’s ill health, the rendezvous couldn’t take place.
“Yes, Sonia ji is unwell right now and recovering, will meet her once she is fine,” Banerjee had told reporters on Tuesday.
The West Bengal CM is pitching for a one-to-one contest against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition throughout the country.
On Tuesday, Banerjee, who has had a long innings in the Lok Sabha, visited Parliament house and met leaders of other parties including Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha and Lalu Prasad’s daughter Misa Bharti.
MPs from Biju Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and DMK also met Banerjee.
Interestingly, Banerjee is also meeting BJP rebels Shatrughan Sinha, Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie at her residence in Delhi on Wednesday.
She also pitched for Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party coming together in Uttar Pradesh and favoured the strongest party in each state taking the lead in taking on the BJP.
