Major, 3 soldiers killed in Pakistan firing; two wounded

A Major and two soldiers were killed on Saturday as Pakistani troops indiscriminately fired at an Infantry patrol on the Line of Control (LOC) in the Keri sector of Rajouri district. Two soldiers were seriously wounded in the firing from across the LOC.

A spokesman of the Army said that the Pakistani troops indulged in unprovoked firing at a patrol party of a battalion of 120 Infantry Brigade resulting in the death of three soldiers.

The Indian Army was effectively retaliating, he said. Those martyred have been identified as, Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh. They succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.

Two other personnel also sustained injuries and are under treatment. Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, 32, belonged to Bhandara district of Maharashtra and is survived by his wife.  Lance Naik Gurmail Singh, 34, belonged to Amritsar in Punjab, and is survived by his wife and a daughter.  Sepoy Pargat Singh, 30, belonged to Karnal district in Haryana, and is survived by his wife and a son.

Meanwhile, J-K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred soldiers.
