Justice Vijaya K Tahilramani , the Chief Justice of Madras High Court have expressed her desire to resign from her post, according to sources.

This move comes after the Supreme Court Collegium refused to accede to Justice Tahilramani’s request to reconsider  its recommendation to her transfer her as Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

According to sources, Justice Tahilramani is learnt to have said that she would not like to continue and is likely to submit her resignation letter to competent authorities, at a dinner meet for Judges hosted by six additional judges who were made permanent judges two days ago.  The meet was held in the Judicial Academy at Chennai.

Meanwhile, advocates, including N G R Prasad sent a letter to the Chief Justice of India to reconsider their decision to transfer Justice Tahilramani out of Chennai.

On September 3, the top court had earlier refused similar requests made by two other High Court judges, Justices Vivek Agarwal and Amit Rawal. The SC Collegium said that for “better administration of justice,” the three transfer orders were recommended.

On August 28, the Collegium had recommended Justice Tahilramani’s transfer to Meghalaya.
