Counting of votes started in Uttar Pradesh Assembly at 8 am on Saturday. As reflected in most of the exit polls, BJP is leading by huge margin with the Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party – Rahul Gandhi (Congress) alliance trailing behind it.

3:20 pm: BJP president Amit Shah congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state party chief, Keshav Prasad Maurya, for BJP’s sweeping victory in UP (BJP 296, SP+Congress:51  BSP:14, OTH 5)

3:10 pm: Shivpal Yadav, who was expelled from the Samajwadi Party by his nephew Akhilesh until recently, is a clear winner in Jaswant Nagar

2:00 pm: Rajnath’s son Pankaj Singh, contesting from Noida, is leading with 1,34,954 votes (BJP 314, SP+Congress:65  BSP:18 OTH 6)

1.12 pm: Elections trends show top BJP ministers win. Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav to address media at 1.30 pm and 5 pm respectively. (BJP 305, SP+Congress:73 BSP:18 OTH 7)

12.00 pm: Shrikant Sharma, national secretary and media convener of BJP, wins from Mathura. “Stop criticising Narendra Modi and think about your party. Modi-Shah duo have won in UP,” Shrikant told Congress, SP and BSP while talking to a national TV channel.

10.25 am: SP leader Shivpal Yadav leading by 5,742 votes in Jaswant Nagar (Etawah) over his nearest rival Manish Yadav Batre of BJP.

10.15 am: BJP's Garima Singh leads in Amethi (UP). The demonetisation drive may not have damaged the voters' confidence on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

10.25 am: SP leader Shivpal Yadav leading by 5,742 votes in Jaswant Nagar (Etawah) over his nearest rival Manish Yadav Batre of BJP.
