The security forces have neutralised one terrorist in an ongoing encounter in Srinagar’s Karan Nagar locality, said DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid.

Encounter between terrorists hiding in building and security forces resumed early morning.

While one terrorist has been neutralised, it is believed one more Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant is holed up inside an under construction building in Karan Nagar area. The militants took shelter in the building on Monday after they were forced to withdraw and later trapped inside the building following their failed terror bid on a CRPF camp.

The militants had entered this building after an alert sentry at the observation post of 23 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spotted them and fired.

“The sentry at the camp noticed two suspicious persons at around 4.30 am, carrying backpacks and weapons. He challenged them and opened fire,” a spokesman of the CRPF said on Monday.

One CRPF trooper was killed during the gunfight while a constable of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was injured.
