Renowned Kerala musician and violinist Balabhaskar, 40, who had met with an accident on September 25, passed away in a hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.
He died at 12.55 am, according to the Thiruvananthapuram hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
The accident took place last Tuesday at Pallipuram near the capital city in which he lost his two-year-old daughter Tejaswini. His wife Lakshmi and the driver of the car they were travelling in had also sustained serious injuries. They are still in hospital.
Doctors treating the musician said they worked overtime to ensure his recovery but were not able to save him, IANS reported.
Balabhaskar had a huge fan following, and his death has left the state shocked. According to reports, his body will be kept at a Thiruvananthapuram college, where he studied, for the public to pay their last respects.
The last rites will take place later in the day.
Balabhaskar was called a child prodigy who shot to fame at the age of 17 when he composed music for a Malayalam film. He has composed music for several films since.
The family had gone to Thrissur in their car to pay obeisance at a temple there, and the accident took place when they were on their way back home.
