Kashmir encounter: Army’s Special Forces kill 4 terrorists in Sopore

Four terrorists were on Wednesday killed in an encounter with Special Forces and commandos in the forests of Hamam in north Kashmir’s Sopore. One 9 PARA commando is reported to have sustained injuries in the encounter.

The encounter broke out in the afternoon when the security forces had cordoned off the area on the basis of information about the presence of five heavily armed terrorists there.

A team consisting of personnel from Special Forces, 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 9 PARA cordoned off the area immediately after receiving the tip-off. The terrorists started firing heavily at the troops when they closed in.

Lt Gen AK Bhatt , GOC, Chinar Corps, complimented the Kilo Force, Special Forces (SF), and 32 RR for eliminating the four terrorists during the ongoing operations in the forests of Hamam.

The Special Forces team was especially inserted in the area of operations and they did an excellent job by neutralising these terrorists and thwarting their nefarious designs, said Lt Gen Bhat.

J&K Director General of Police S P Vaid confirmed that five terrorists were holed up in the ongoing gunfight with forces in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Earlier, a fierce gunbattle broke out between terrorists and the soldiers in the upper reaches of Rafiabad forests.
