Five heavily armed terrorists were killed by the Army on Saturday when they made an infiltration bid through the Tangdhar sector on the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir.
Colonel Rajesh Kalia, spokesman for the Army, said the infiltration bid was made early Saturday morning from the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Search operation in the area was in progress till last reports came in.
Two days ago, a group of about 15 terrorists made a bid to infiltrate from the same area but retreated towards PoK when the Indian troops opened fire at them.
Meanwhile, a CRPF jawan suffered grievous head injuries on Friday when a mob raising anti-India slogans pelted stones at the security forces outside Srinagar’s Jama Masjid.
The injured jawan was identified as Gurcharan Singh.
The police said that several other security personnel, including the DSP of Khanyar sub-division and SHO of Nowhata police station, were injured as a mob of about 800 miscreants indulged in heavy stone pelting. They were waving Pakistani flags.
The miscreants had come out of the mosque after the Friday sermons of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who preached peaceful resolution of the problem in Kashmir.
A police spokesman said the security forces deployed there to prevent any untoward incident on the second Friday of Ramzan exercised restraint. He said a case had been registered by the police.
