Uttar Pradesh Police announced a bounty of Rs 2.5 lakh each on two suspects, accused of killing the 43-year old former Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari in Lucknow on Friday last week.

On Monday, UP Deputy General of Police (DGP), O.P. Singh said that the reward would elicit information about the whereabouts of the assailants.

The two assailants identified as Ashfaq Husain and Moinuddin Patha, checked into a hotel a day before committing the murder. They checked out of the hotel an hour after brutally killing the Hindu leader.

They left their blood-soaked saffron kurtas and a blood-stained knife and other personal belongings in the hotel room. Police sealed the hotel room after sending the recovered items to the forensic team.

The attackers were captured in a CCTV camera installed at the reception of the hotel, carrying a box of sweets in which the murder weapon was hidden.

Police recovered the sweets box from the crime scene that led them to the sweets shop in Surat from where it was brought. Further police arrested three persons – Maulana Mohsin Sheikh Saleem, Faizan and Rashid Ahmad Pathan alias Khursheed – who are described as the conspirators of the crime.

The UP police are bringing the three accused to Lucknow on a 72-hour transit remand. They are expected to be presented before a court in Lucknow, later on Monday.
