Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan thanked the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday for allotting the ‘battery torch’ symbol to the party.
In a tweet posted on Sunday, Haasan said that the symbol is “appropriate” for the party.
“MNM thanks the Election Commision for granting us the ‘Battery Torch’ symbol for the forthcoming elections. So appropriate. MNM will endeavour to be the ‘Torch-Bearer’ for a new era in TN and Indian politics,” Haasan said in his tweet.

Haasan had launched his political party MNM (People’s Centre for Justice) on 21 February 2018 in Madurai in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
He also unfurled his party’s flag, which has six hands – three in red and three in white – joined together around a star on a white background.
MNM will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well as the state assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Since launching his party, the 64-year-old Haasan has toured parts of the state to connect with the masses. He has also extended his support to protests such as the one against Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi.
Last month speaking to reporters here, he said that the party will release the names of Lok Sabha candidates in phases and that youth will get preference in the selections.
