Juctice BH Loya’s son, Anuj Loya, is likely to address a press conference today.
Amid speculations of foul play surrounding the death of Justice Loya, Anuj had said in November last year that he is convinced his father died of heart attack. According to various media reports, he had asserted that the Loya family did not doubt the “integrity of investigative agencies”.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday had termed the issue of alleged mysterious death of special CBI judge B H Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter, in 2014 as a ‘serious matter’.
The apex court had sought a response from Maharashtra government on pleas seeking an independent probe into the matter. The top court had said, “This matter requires bi-party hearing rather than exparte”.
A bench of justices Arun Mishra and M M Shantanagoudar asked Maharasthra Government counsel Nishant R Katneshwarkar to file reply by January 15.
Loya had died of cardiac arrest in Nagpur on December 1, 2014, when he had gone to attend the wedding of a colleague’s daughter.
The issue came under the spotlight in November last year after media reports quoting his sister fuelled suspicion about the circumstances surrounding his death and its link to the Sohrabuddin case.
In the latest development, Congress leader Tehseen Poonawalla, who filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking an independent probe into the alleged mysterious death of Special CBI judge B H Loya, last week alleged that he was pressurised by a senior advocate to withdraw his petition.
Poonawalla, who had filed the petition, said just before his plea was to be heard Friday morning in the court of Justices Arun Mishra and M M Shantanagoudar, the senior advocate had pressurised him to withdraw the petition.
He, however, refused to divulge the name of the senior lawyer.
He said he had told the senior advocate that he will not withdraw the petition as he has “full belief in the institution.”
