Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Monday termed the Jharkhand Assembly poll victory as “special and of extreme contemporary importance” and thanked the people of the state for pushing BJP out of power.
In a statement, Sonia Gandhi said the people of Jharkhand deserve special gratitude and congratulations for summarily “defeating the BJP and its divisive agenda”.
She further said that with the mandate, the people have defeated BJP’s “attempts to divide the society on caste and religious lines”.
She thanked the people of the state for expressing their substantive faith in the Congress-JMM-RJD alliance. Sonia Gandhi also congratulated JMM’s Hemant Soren, all alliance partners and the Congress party leaders and workers for the victory.
Her remarks came shortly after the Congress ‘satyagrah’ against the Citizenship Amendment Act at Raj Ghat on Monday.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who arrived in the national capital to participate in the protest over the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens on Monday, said that the people of Maharashtra, Haryana and now Jharkhand have rejected the misleading politics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The JMM-Congress-RJD combine has got a clear mandate in the Jharkhand Assembly polls and is set to form the new government.
Several opposition parties including the RJD and TMC congratulated the alliance for the victory.
The ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra hailed the Jharkhand poll verdict in which the ruling BJP lost power to the Congress-JMM-RJD combine.
