RLD Vice-President Jayant Chaudhary has appealed to farmers and labourers to join active politics so that they can get their problems sorted out.

The RLD leader was addressing farmers outside the sugar mills in Shamli on Thursday. Jayant had visited the farmers who are staging a dharna outside the mill gate for past nine days to press for their demands.

In his address, Jayant said that farmers have the potential to take their own decisions. Extending his full support for their movement he exclaimed, “I am with you!” He also criticized the BJP governments at the centre and the state for the plight of the farmers.

“PM Modi had said that he doesn’t indulge in the politics of vote, but I disagree with his statement,” said Jayant, claiming that politicians do politics of vote. But farmers and labourers should not be afraid of politics, he said, adding that instead, they should play an active role in it. “When they will transform into a potential vote bank, rising above caste and community lines, the whole administration and government will take notice,” he said.

Targeting the state government, Jayant said that they too are not serious about the payment issues of farmers. He said Shamli Mill has Rs 83 crore dues of the previous year and Rs 127 crore of the current year, therefore farmers are annoyed and showing their anger through protest.

In the entire state, Rs 9,500 crore of sugarcane payment is pending.
