Jammu | Militant arrested with 8 grenades ahead of Independence Day

The Jammu police claimed to have foiled an Independence Day terror plot with the arrest of a militant who was found in possession of eight grenades. The police said terrorists were planning to trigger blasts in the winter capital.

According to reports, the police acting on intelligence inputs intercepted a bus in Gandhi Nagar area late Sunday night and arrested a youth from Kashmir who was carrying eight hand grenades.

The militant was identified as Arfan Wani, a resident of Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. Eight live hand grenades and Rs 60,000 in cash were recovered from his possession, said a police officer.
