Jammu and Kashmir: Two Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorists killed in Khonmoh area

Two terrorists, belonging to the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terror outfit, were killed in a gunfight with the security forces on Saturday morning in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar city.

The Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) received information about the presence of terrorists in Khonmoh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar district. According to the police sources, the two had planned to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations being held in Srinagar.

“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired, triggering the encounter,” a police officer said.

Two AK-47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from their possession. A search operation was going on in the area.

Security was tightened in the city as various official functions have been planned in connection with the Republic Day celebrations.
