The Kashmiri separatists on Wednesday called for shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on October 8 and subsequent 3 polling days to protest against holding of the Municipal and Panchayat elections in the state.

Apart from the separatists, Pakistan backed terrorist outfits have already called for boycott of these elections.

The Municipal elections are being held in 4-phases with the first phase commencing on October 8. The subsequent phases of polling are on 10, 13, and 16 October.

In a statement, the separatists have asked people to observe complete shutdown across Jammu and Kashmir on the polling days to display their complete disassociation with and resentment against these elections.

Separatist leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq criticised the authorities for detaining several of their activists.
