Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday urged all political parties to participate in the elections to the urban local bodies for which polling will be held next month.
The Governor’s appeal came as the election commission during the day issued a notification of holding the elections in four phases beginning 8 October.
Chief electoral officer Shaleen Kabra said that polling will be held on 8, 10, 13 and 16 October and counting of votes will be done on 20 October.
He said that the elections will be held on party basis.
On the sidelines of a function in Srinagar, the Governor urged all political parties to participate in the upcoming elections.
He said there was no point boycotting these elections as these parties had contested the Kargil’s LAHDC elections about 20 days ago when the petitions against the Article 35-A were being heard by the Supreme Court.
It is worth mentioning that the PDP and National Conference have announced boycott of these elections as a protest against “attempts” of tinkering with the Article 35-A. The separatists have also asked the people to boycott these elections.
