The Srinagar–Leh highway was on Tuesday closed for vehicular traffic because of heavy snowfall at the Zojila Pass and other places.
Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Basant Rath, said that the road at Zojila has been closed because of heavy snowfall last evening.
The Moughal road linking Kashmir valley with the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch has also been closed because of heavy snow at Peer-ki-Gali. Several other roads in the interior areas of Kashmir and Ladakh were blocked with snow.
The weather department has predicted snowfall in various parts of the state till Wednesday.
Meanwhile, with a minimum temperature recorded at minus 6.2 degrees Celsius, Kargil town was the coldest in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Leh in Ladakh region was at minus 5, while it was minus 4 in Gulmarg, 3.2 in Srinagar and 12.6 degrees Celsius in Jammu and Pahalgam was at 1.1 degrees Celsius.
