Paying heed to CBI’s request, a Delhi court on Monday permitted the investigative agency to grill former media baron Peter Mukerjea in the INX media case till March 31.
Mukerjea, who is undergoing trial in the Sheena Bora murder case, was produced before the Patiala House court earlier in the day.
Till Sunday, Mukerjea was lodged at Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail.
Four CBI sleuths visited the jail on Sunday and took Mukerjea in custody after the special CBI court’s decision on Friday to let the premier investigative agency grill the beleaguered media mogul.
Karti Chidambaram, former Union finance minister P Chidambaram’s son, was also arrested in the case. But Delhi High Court granted bail to Karti on a surety of Rs 10 lakh.
As per reports, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is planning to grill Mukerjea and Karti together at its headquarters in the national capital soon.
Indrani Mukerjea, Peter’s wife and the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case too has been arrested in the case.
The INX Media case, registered by the CBI, relates to a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval granted to INX Media, founded by the Mukerjeas, for receiving foreign funds in 2007.
The Enforcement Directorate has also registered a case against INX Media, the Mukerjeas and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
INX Media is accused of violating the FIPB guidelines while receiving investments from Mauritius.
