Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta’s decision of renewing the sexual harassment allegations against veteran actor Nana Patekar commenced the #MeToo movement in India. The actress went on air and opened up about the incident that took place on the film sets in 2008. However, the accused kept denying the allegations and even slapped a legal notice on Tanushree.
In the wake of the allegations, other women from the industry came out in her support and even gave strength to the movement with their own stories of harassment.
Vinta Nanda, the writer of the 90’s show, ‘Tara’, accused Alok Nath of raping her almost two decades ago. Thereafter, actresses such as Sandhya Mridul and Deepika Amin added up to the allegations and spoke up about their experience with Alok Nath.
Not just the entertainment industry, the #MeToo wave did hit the common people, too. Women took to social media with their sexual harassment and assault stories.
The #MeToo movement was ignited by Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano, when she openly accused the media mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct in October 2017. As the movement completed its one year anniversary, it took Bollywood by storm.
Recently, 11 Indian women filmmakers declared that they wouldn’t work with the proven offenders.
Meanwhile, the list of accused keeps growing as women continue to fiercely take their assaulters or molesters head on and backing up each other through the journey.
So here is the list of people who have been accused of sexual misconduct so far:
