The iconic 142-year-old post office bearing the signature of British architectural legacy in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district headquarters town wears a refreshingly refurbished look with the Indian Railways and the India Post in a joint endeavour renovating the heritage building for posterity.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier assured to renovate the heritage post office building during his visit to Jharsuguda in November 2021. He reviewed the progress of the work during his last visit to Jharsuguda recently.
Local people had urged Vaishnaw to renovate this heritage building and initiate measures to ensure its restoration, maintenance, and re-operationalisation. The post office was built during the British Raj in 1882.
By keeping his promise, the Railway Minister has instilled a sense of belief among the people regarding the commitment of the railway administration to provide facilities for improved accessibility and convenience for residents.
