The Indian Air Force (IAF) asked residents of the areas surrounding Jammu airfield to immediately report incidents of drone sighting for aerospace safety and airfield security.

A Jammu Airfield Security review meeting held here at Air Force Station Jammu on Saturday with village heads of the areas in the vicinity of Jammu airfield, along with representatives from concerned civil agencies. During the meeting, important areas of concern related to airfield security and aerospace safety were addressed.

The meeting, convened to discuss safe aircraft operations in Jammu with key officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and civil agencies, was chaired by Air Commodore GS Bhullar, AOC Air Force Station.

Speaking on the occasion, the AOC stressed the need for exercising strict vigil for any untoward incident, suspicious activities or drone sighting and requested the stakeholders to promptly report any such abnormal activity.

The vital issue of maintenance of a safe flying environment around the airfield was also brought up for discussion during the meeting. The AOC expressed his deep concern over rampant garbage dumping around Jammu Airport and explained how it is contributing to heightened bird activity which he said might lead to a potential aircraft accident.

He urged all the village heads and civic agencies to proactively report open dumping in the areas around airfield and initiate steps to educate citizens in their areas towards better waste segregation and disposal for a safer flying environment at Jammu. The critical areas where rampant garbage disposal continues in the vicinity of Jammu airfields were also discussed during the meeting.

Civic agencies were requested to promptly act on such reckless garbage dumping which endangers safe aircraft operations.
