Hungarian film director Bela Thar, who arrived in Thiruvananthapuram recently to participate at the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) has come out against Communists and Communism calling it a copper coin thrown away by the world.

In an interview given to a Malayalam daily, Bela Thar said he hasn’t seen a good Communist yet and that all communists are criminals and they use communism as a cover for their criminal activities and destruction of humanity.

“Until today, I have not met a good communist. All communists are criminals. World leaders use communism as a cover for their criminal activities and destruction of humanity. A good number of them do not know what communism and Marxism are. I don’t know about Kerala,” said Bela Thar, who received the lifetime achievement award for films at the film festival.

Bela said he was an ardent communist until the age of 16. Later when he realised that all the people he worshiped were fake communists, he broke ties with it.

“I was an ardent communist until the age of 16. Later, when I realized that all the people I worshiped were fake communists, I learned to turn back from the ways I had been walking up to then,” he said.

Calling communism a copper coin thrown away by the world, Bela said, “It was my country that embraced communism and taught me to hate it.”

Putting a question whether you know of any country that survived communism and socialism, he went on to answer himself, “You might take the name of China. But China is a capitalist country. There is no such reward in governance, thinking that there is communism under the banner of the political party.”Bela said and added that he would say that the reason for China’s progress today is capitalism.”
