Emotional scenes were witnessed at the Police Lines where wreaths were laid on the mortal remains of the slain Inspector.
Additional DGP, Law and Order, Vijay Kumar said that the investigation into the killing of Wani has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Inspector Wani, who was shot by a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist while playing cricket in Srinagar on 29 October, died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on Thursday.
The NIA and the J&K Police will investigate it jointly, Vijay Kumar told reporters on the sidelines of the wreath-laying ceremony of the slain officer.
The ADGP said the police have got some leads in the case and the investigation is underway. “Those involved will soon be brought to justice. Investigations are on and we cannot share the details,” he added.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha assured that the supreme sacrifice of Inspector Wani will not go in vain. “We are firmly resolved to crush the terrorist menace and give a befitting reply to those who are aiding and abetting terrorism.”
