The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested the hotel owner from Karnal, Haryana in the sensational Andaman and Nicobar rape case.
The accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh, 38, a resident of Dalmia and Kedia City, Mini Bay, Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Island.
He was arrested, while he was trying to escape to Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, in a private cab. The accused is said to be an owner of a Hotel Desi Lounge at Dolly Gang, Port Blair.
The accused was hiding in Kolkata, Punjab and Delhi since the case was lodged against him at Aberdeen police station of A&N. The accused was having a reward of Rs one lakh on his arrest.
Special Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ravindra Singh Yadav said that a case of sexual assault was registered at Aberdeen police station, A&N on October 1 in the matter. It was alleged that the then Chief Secretary Jitender Narain and his other associates Sandeep Singh, hotel owner, and Rishi, then Labour Commissioner of Andaman were main accused in the case.
During the course of investigation, the then Chief Secretary Jitender Narain was arrested by the Andaman and Nicobar Police. However, the other two accused were on the run.
Meanwhile, an input was received by the team of Crime Branch of Delhi about the accused Sandeep.
A team consisting of Sub-Inspector Yogesh Tanwar, Assistant SI Rajesh Baisoya, Head Constable Charan Singh, Constable Abhay Pathak, Karanveer and Vipin Kumar under the leadership of Inspector Vijay Pal Dahiya and overall supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Naresh Solanki was constituted by Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Deo to nab the accused.
Over 100 hotels and guest houses were searched in Haridwar, Rishikesh and other places, before arresting the accused from Karnal, Haryana. Further investigation is being carried out.
