In an another case of crime against women performers in Haryana, the body of a popular folk singer with her throat slit was found in a agricultural field at Rohtak’s Baniyani village on Thursday.

The 40-year-old singer has been identified as Mamta Sharma and was reportedly missing since last weekend, according to media reports.

The body was discovered by villager from Baniyani. Incidentally, Baniyani is the native village of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

According to victim’s son, the singer had been missing ever since she had left to attend an event along with her associate — Mohit Kumar– in Sonipat.

According to media reports, Mohit Kumar later recounted that Sharma had switched car and left with another group, while claiming that she knew the group members.

Suspecting foul play, victim’s son approached the police and filed an FIR at the Kalanaur police station.

The singer, who hailed from Kalanaur village in Rohtak district, used to sing folk songs at religious event.

The police have registered a murder case against unknown people. The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigation are underway.

In October, 2017, 22-year-old artiste Harshita Dahiya from Haryana was killed by unidentified assailants in Panipat district of Haryana, while she was returning after a performance.

Harshita Dahiya, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Panipat, had reportedly posted a video on YouTube accusing people of ‘threatening to kill her’. The police after their investigation in the case said that she had been killed on the order of her brother-in-law Dinesh, who is a gangster and is lodged in Tihar Jail.
