A gunfight started on Tuesday evening between hiding militants and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.
Police said following intelligence inputs about a group of militants hiding in the area, security forces comprising the army’s counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force and the Special Operations Group of the state police, launched a cordon and search operation in Tral area of Pulwama.
“As the security forces tightened the cordon, hiding militants fired at them, triggering the gunfight,” police said.

Meanwhile, protests started in the area with stone pelters trying to disrupt the operation.
Reports said security forces are using tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
