Two terrorists were killed in a gunfight that broke out on Wednesday between the security forces and the hostiles in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag town.
The encounter, which began early in the morning, ended later in the day. Personnel from the Indian Army, the J-K Police and CRPF launched a combing operation to clear the area.
After receiving some special information, the Kotwal Mohalla in Anantnag was surrounded by the security forces in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to media reports, two terrorists are trapped inside a house. It is believed that they belong to Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces. Evacuation of civilians was started before launching assault on the hiding militants,” IANS quoted a police officer as saying.
Firing from both ends began as soon as the joint team of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF conducted a siege operation in the area.
Mobile internet services have been suspended in Anantnag district as a precautionary measure.
