Gujarat belled the cat for 2017: Mamata Banerjee on poll verdict

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that “Gujarat belled the cat for 2019” and congratulated people of Gujarat for their “balanced verdict” on Gujarat Assembly elections.

Mamata said on Twitter that, Gujarat verdict is just a “temporary and face-saving win” and “shows moral defeat for BJP”.

Gujarat voted against atrocities, anxiety and injustice caused to the common people, said Mamata on Twitter.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to win both states. Trends from counting centres across Gujarat put Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of Congress party. The Gujarat Assembly has 182 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party needs 91 seats to control the Gujarat Assembly.

In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP has registered an overwhelming majority, according to trends by Elecection Commission, and is set to from a new government in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party needs 35 seats to control the Himachal Assembly.
